Lehighton middle school to hold art exhibit, concert

The Lehighton Area Middle School will hold its 21st annual Spring Art Exhibition and Spring Choral Concert on Tuesday. The art exhibit begins at 6 p.m. while the concert begins at 7 p.m.

Art students will exhibit outstanding art work from their fifth through eighth grade art classes. Projects that were created this year include ceramics, 3-D construction, printing, drawings, and mixed media works in a juried art display with awards given.The middle school show choir, Music Express Jr., will begin the evening's festivities. "The Nicest Kids In Town," from the Broadway smash "Hairspray," will be their first selection.The Treble Chorale, consisting of fifth and sixth graders, will begin their portion of the program with an original spiritual entitled, "Glory Train." The chorale will also perform "Do, Re, Mi" from the "The Sound of Music." Special guest Calvin Maholick will accompany the chorus for this selection. Other selections include "Peace, Peace, Peace;" a George M. Cohan inspired selection called, "Yankee Doodle Song," and the rock 'n' roll classic, "Purple People Eater."Thomas Weidner is the director of the Treble Chorale.Music Express Jr. will conclude their evening with two selections. The first is titled, "When I Get My Name In Lights" from the musical "The Boy From Oz." Their second will be "Reach," featuring the talents of seventh-grader Spencer Perkins and eighth-grader Madison DeLuca.Music Express Jr. is under the direction of Laura Welkey.The Choraliers, consisting of seventh- and eighth-graders will conclude the concert.Their first selection will be "Best Day of My Life" from the group American Authors. "Cantar," a spunky original by Jay Althouse, will be their second selection. They will also perform the classic spiritual "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel." Seventh-grader Calvin Maholick will accompany the chorus on piano for this selection."In Flanders Fields," a somber selection commemorating a World War I battlefield, will be their next selection. Seventh-grader Kylie Kresge will perform a solo and eighth-grader Olivia Frendt will accompany. The final selection will be "All For the Best" from "Godspell."The art exhibition is free. A donation will be accepted for the concert. Both events are open to the public.
