Northern Lehigh boilers to cost $218K

Northern Lehigh School District will spend $218,790 to replace the cooling tower and boilers at Peters Elementary.

The school board unanimously agreed on Monday to award the bid to Elliott-Lewis Corporation of Nazareth.It will be paid from the district's long-range maintenance fund balance, as budgeted in the 2015-2016 general fund budget.Also on Monday, the board approved a tuition fee of $30 per student for a one-week elementary summer band program, and also approved a stipend for summer band program director Steven Jonkman.Jonkman's stipend will be equal to the amount collected for student participation, but will not exceed $1,000.The summer band program will run Aug. 10-14.In other business, the board:• Approved a three-year contract for local and long-distance telephone service with Level 3 Communications via two primary rate interfaces, at a monthly recurring cost of $1,048 per month, plus regulatory fees and actual monthly usage charges.• Approved the co-payment amount for student athletes receiving a sports physical from OAA during the 2015-16 school year at a cost of $10 per student, in accordance with school board policy 122.• Approved the awarding of fuel bids to Talley Petroleum Enterprises Inc.• Appointed Sweet, Stevens, Williams & Katz LLP as special counsel for the 2015-16 school year. The rate for nonroutine matters will be $195 per hour. The rate for routine general advice will be $150 per hour. The hourly rate for legal assistants for routine and nonroutine matters will be $125 per hour. This reflects a $10 increase over the previous year's fees.• Appointed Sweet, Stevens, Williams & Katz LLP as special counsel for the 2015-2016 school year for special education consultations and student services at a cost of $6,300 for the 2015-2016 school year, the same rate as last year.• Appointed Director Donna Kulp as treasurer for the 2015-2016 fiscal year.• Approved the following co-curricular positions for the 2015-2016 school year: David Carroll, senior high band adviser, $4,951, and middle school band director, $724; Gina Orr and Elizabeth Case, middle school student council adviser (shared $1,307), $653.50 each; Theresa Cinicola, senior class adviser, $664; Julie Everett, senior class adviser, $664; Kelly Follweiler, junior class adviser, $664; Patricia Jones, junior class adviser, $664; Michael Lehtonen, sophomore class adviser, $664; Rachel Reiter, middle school chorus adviser, $724, and Amy Zeiser, sophomore class adviser, $664
