Three injured in early morning crash

Police are investigating a two-car crash in Rush Township that injured three people early Friday.

According to Police Sergeant Duane Frederick, a 17-year-old female from Coaldale was driving a 2007 Dodge on Claremont Avenue about 9:17 a.m. when she turned into the path of a 1997 GMC driven by Brian Niece, 44, Tamaqua.Niece was traveling south in the right lane, said Frederick, when the northbound car driven by the female was turning onto Fairview Street from Claremont Avenue, Route 309.Three people were injured and both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.A passenger in Niece's vehicle, Tina Rehrig, 41, Tamaqua, was airlifted to a Lehigh Valley medical center.Police indicated that the female was at fault.Kline Township Police assisted at the scene, along with Hometown Fire Company, Tamaqua Community Ambulance, Tamaqua Rescue Squad and Hometown Fire Police.Fire police manned traffic-control stations along the four-lane highway.The investigation is continuing.
