The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its annual Spring Tea on April 28 in the social hall. Guest speaker was Kathy Rizzoto of "Sheep To Shawl." She displayed a variety of items crafted from goat wool, including tablecloths, scarves, hats and dyed skeins of wool. The dyes were all handcrafted from nature, using berries, grapes and other materials. She also brought along her spinning wheel, which she demonstrated by turning wool into yarn.The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 25. Guest speaker will be Regina Kromer of the Penn State Master Gardener Program.Neuro supportSt. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale is establishing a neurological support group, which will meet the third Friday of each month. Meetings will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the hospital's community room. The first meeting will be held on May 15.The group offers support to survivors, families and friends of those who suffer from neurologic diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and strokes.In addition to the opportunity to socialize with people facing the same difficulties, the support group will offer ways to deal with problems related to such diseases and disorders.For more information, call 570-645-8197.Garden workshopThe Schuylkill County Penn State Master Gardeners program had to reschedule its walking workshop due to Mother Nature. The workshop is designed to help residents improve their gardening skills.The walk will be held on May 30, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Tuscarora State Park.Anyone interested in participating in this 1-mile hike, along an easy trail, is to meet at the Day Use Area before 10 a.m.Naturalist Robin Tracy and several master gardeners will point out the native plants and provide information on how they can be used in the home garden.Adult day careThe Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a number of activities planned for the month of May, including a visit from the St. Jerome's kindergarten students on May 29.Other special days this month include: Wednesday, guest bingo; May 15, singalong with Audrey Christ; May 22, patriotic snacks and crafts; May 26, painting with forks; and May 27, baking day.In addition to weekly singalongs and social games, activities include exercise, reality orientation, remotivational and reminiscent therapy, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack.Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center and its services may call 570-668-6556.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. Sunday school begins at the end of the junior sermon.Upcoming events will include the Spring Rummage sale on May 16 and May 18, and a hoagie sale on June 2.
