Officials seek opinions on van, bus programs

The Schuylkill Transportation System wants peoples' opinions as it plans its shared ride van and fixed route bus programs.

The public meetings will be held at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday in the STS conference room on the third level of Union Station at 300 S. Centre St. in Pottsville.The public meetings are required as part of the state grant application program.The meetings were announced at a commissioners' workshop session Wednesday.In other business, commissioners approved a $961,624 Homeland Security grant agreement for the county 911 center.The money will support planning, training, exercises, maintenance and administrative functions of the East Central Task Force from Sept. 1, 2014, through Aug. 31, 2016.In related matters, commissioners also approved a $35,000 contract addendum with Delta Development, Mechanicsburg, that will renew the current maintenance and support contract by an additional year. The renewal term is from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016.Funding for the agreement will be paid through the Homeland Security grant program and through an account for contracted services.Also on Wednesday, commissioners approved an internship agreement between Lock Haven University and the county Adult Probation and Parole Office.Commissioners also approved a contract between Vigilnet America and adult probation and parole to provide Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring and radio frequency electronic monitoring services at $9.85 per day, paid only when SCRAM bracelets are in use, and $6.50 per unit for the mobile breath alcohol monitoring. The agreement is effective from May 7 through May 7, 2016.Commissioners also agreed to allow the detectives division of the district attorney's office to buy a 2015 Ford Utility Police Interceptor.The purchase will be made through New Holland Auto Group, New Holland, for $32,090.27. The agreement will be a five-year lease purchase with a deferred first year payment and an annual payment of $7,547.17 after that.In other business, commissioners approved the Veterans Affairs Office request for an increase in the cost of installing headstones, from $40 to $60.
