Work to begin on intersection of 209 and 715 in Chestnuthill

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 5 announced work will begin Tuesday on a project to improve the intersection of Routes 209 and 715 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

"These improvements should make this intersection operate more efficiently and safely," District Executive Michael W. Rebert said.The project includes widening the intersection to provide for turning lanes including a left turning lane with turning arrow from Route 209 North to Route 715 North; left turning lane from Route 209 South to a driveway; and right turning lane with turning arrow from Route 715 South to Route 209 South. It also includes replacing and upgrading the existing traffic signal, sidewalk construction and other miscellaneous construction.From Tuesday through December, motorists will experience off-peak lane restrictions on both Route 209 and Route 715 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The restrictions on Route 209 will occur between Route 115 and Bond Lane, and the restrictions on Route 715 will occur between Route 209 and Gould Road.Motorists are advised to expect delays and use caution driving through the area. There will be no restrictions during major holiday weekends. All work is expected to be complete this December.Northeast Site Contractors of East Stroudsburg is the general contractor on the $1,587,021 project.The intersection has an average daily traffic volume of 18,179 vehicles on Route 209, and 5,266 vehicles on Route 715.Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting
