Fire company officially a nonprofit

Parryville Fire Company is now an official 501c3 nonprofit organization thanks to the work of a Hazleton agency.

After hearing a presentation by John M. Nonnemacher, accountant with Snyder and Clemente, at a Carbon County Firemen's Association meeting, Parryville Fire Chief Jim Bonser invited him to help the fire company.A 501c3 designation means contributions to the fire company are tax-deductible for donors.Bonser said this would help Parryville in its future fundraising efforts."When you walk into a place like Walmart for a donation, they won't even talk to you if you're not 501c3 certified," Bonser said.Nonnemacher, who is also working with other fire companies across the state, said the entire process took around a year."The 501c3 letter is really like gold," he said. "It's not just about the donations coming from a large corporation. This allows your resident who may want to donate to know that their contribution is fully tax-deductible."
