Lehighton man jailed for harassment

A Carbon County man is behind bars in Schuylkill County as of 1 p.m. Friday for putting his toddler granddaughter at risk during a scuffle with the girl's mother.

Troy M. Fairchild Sr., 42, of Lehighton, will serve seven to 23 months in jail for his actions during the May 1, 2014, incident.However, he was immediately eligible for work release.Judge James Goodman also ordered Fairchild to pay a $100 fine for a charge of harassment.Fairchild is also forbidden to have contact with the child while he is in prison.According to court documents, there will be no such restriction after he is released.Fairchild was charged by Pottsville police. The incident happened in a store parking lot as Fairchild harassed the child's mother.Fairchild grabbed the woman and pulled her down, also taking down the stroller in which the child was sitting, according to court documents.He was convicted by a jury on Feb. 5 of recklessly endangering another person. Jurors acquitted him of simple assault, and Goodman found him guilty of harassment.
