Commuting traffic at 7 to 8 a.m. Thursday came to a standstill on Route 309 in Tamaquaand Hometown after a crash at Taggartsville, at the bottom of Hometown Hill. When an emergency closes Route 309 at Tamaqua, the only options are 20-mile detours. One route takes traffic through Hauto, Nesquehoning, Lansford and Coaldale, and the other through Barnesville, Locust Valley and Tuscarora, the latter detour unsuitable for tractor-trailers.
