Pleasant Valley students win awards at arts exhibition

During the latest school board meeting, Pleasant Valley Superintendent Carole Geary was elated to announce, "Pleasant Valley High School won seven out of 14 awards, including the top honor of best in show at the 22nd Annual PoconoArts Student Exhibition."

Kristan Lai, a senior, won best in show with a watercolor piece. In the 2-D artwork, Seth Todora won first place. Brianna Kish and Narissa Hajratalli won first and second places, respectively in the Fine Functional Crafts category.Shannon Simpson claimed the top spot in the three dimensional category, along with Emily Seda taking the third place honors in the Photography section.Geary expressed her pleasure to inform the school board of these honors by concluding, "We have a lot of talented students in our art program".Ms. Linda Micklo, school board director, shared a report from a recent meeting of the Monroe Career and Technical Institute."Students from the Culinary Arts program of MCTI won the Management competition at Pennsylvania ProStart Invitational on Feb. 25, 2015".The Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association held their inaugural state ProStart Invitational in State College."The win in the category allows the team to compete in Anaheim, California, in the national competition in April," Micklo said.According to the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association's website, the management teams develop a business proposal for an original restaurant concept and present it to a panel of industry judges, who challenge them to address the issues restaurant managers face on a daily basis.The national ProStart Invitational in California will take place at Disneyland in Anaheim on April 18 through 20 of 2015.
