Thirteen first-time offenders placed in probation program

A total of 13 first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County'sAccelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Tuesday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year.Stephanie Andreas, 28, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of theft by unlawful taking and related counts. She was arrested by Mahoning Township police for an incident on June 6, 2014, involving the theft of a stethoscope from the Mahoning Nursing and Rehabilitation facility.She was assessed $650 for the cost of theprogram and orderedto render 50 hours ofcommunity service and make restitution to the victim of $95.Justin A. Calucci, 26, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence. He was arrested on Sept. 14, 2014, along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East by Mahoning Township police. A test showed 0.20 BAC.He was assessed $650 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and his license was suspended for 60days.Cassidy Lee Dinnison, 18, of Forest, Virginia,was placed on a chargeof possession of drugparaphernalia. She was arrested on Oct. 17, 2014, along Bake Oven Knob in East Penn Townshipby state police atLehighton.She was assessed $650 and ordered to render 50 hours of communityservice.Kevin Terron Garris, 24, of Philadelphia, was placed on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Nov. 21, 2014, following a vehicle stop along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Edward W. Hendershot Jr., 24, of Lehighton,was placed on a charge of retail theft. He was arrested on Sept. 7, 2014, byMahoning Township police for an incident at theWalmart store. He took $155.17 worth of food items, police say.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and stay out of the Walmart store.Janine April Ringlaben, 23, of Lehighton, was placed on a retail theft charge. She was arrested by Lansford police for an incident at the Family Dollar Store along East Patterson Street.She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and stay out of the Family Dollar store.George VincentMcIntosh, 37, of Nesquehoning, was placed on a charge of terroristic threats and related counts. He was arrested on Sept. 12, 2014, by Lansford police for an incident in the area of 347 W. Kline Ave.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and have no contact with the victim.Santiago Monserrat Jr., 40, of Kunkletown, was placed on a charge of DUI. He was arrested on Oct. 4, 2014, along Route 903 by Kidder Township police. A test showed 0.14 BAC.He was assessed $500 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and his license was suspended for 30 days.Marissa Ann Ostroski, 23, of Beaver Meadows, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Aug. 8, 2014, along Route 93 in Banks Township, by state police at Hazleton. A test showed 0.15 BAC.She was assessed $500 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and her license was suspended for 60 days.Ryan Josiah Schlegel, 19, of Fleetwood, Berks County, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on March 2, 2014, along Mahoning Drive East by Mahoning Township police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 90 days.Mitchell Lee Sharpe, 23, of Weatherly, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on July 20, 2014, along Quakake Road, in Packer Township, by state police at Hazleton. A test showed 0.17 BAC.He was assessed $550 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and his license was suspended for 60 days.James JosephSimmons, 23, ofLehighton, formerly of Weatherly, was placed on a possession of acontrolled substance charge. He was arrested along Broad Street by Beaver Meadows police on Nov. 25, 2014.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of communityservice.Eli Daniel Suveg, 21, of Lansford, was placed on a simple assault charge. He was arrested on Dec. 20, 2014, by Summit Hill police for an incident at 307 Lansford Court.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
