L. Towamensing Township joins Carbon County COG

Lower Towamensing Township is the newest municipality to join the Carbon County Council of Governments.

On a unanimous vote, the township's board of supervisors on Tuesday adopted a resolution to become an active member in the county COG.The COG is an informal, voluntary association of local government units joined together to improve cooperation, coordination and planning.Supervisors' Chairman Brent Green said the resolution is a year-to-year agreement that costs each municipality $50 per year.Green said he believes the township will benefit from the partnership over time in the form of shared services and reduction of costs.He said municipalities who choose to participate in the COG could also be eligible for potential grant money that's available.Other businessIn other business, supervisors:Agreed to purchase a waste oil burner in the township garage. The township will spend $8,366 for replacement, and another $1,186 for installation, for a total cost of $9,552.Adopted the township's new Subdivision and Land Development ordinance.Adopted the township's new zoning ordinance.Agreed to hold an open house and document shredding event on April 11 at the township municipal building. The time has yet to be determined.Agreed to purchase a site lock for website security from Bobby O'Gurek for the township's website at a cost of $60 a year.Tabled a motion to adopt the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors unemployment compensation ordinance.
