Borough will host farmers market

During its March meeting, Slatington Borough announced plans to host a farmer's market.

The market will operate from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays at Victory Park. It will operate starting in April and end the weekend before Thanksgiving.The market will be open to vendors to sell flowers, honey, fruits and vegetables. Vendors cannot operate prepared food stands or sell flea market items at the market.If it is needed, overflow parking will be available in the old PP&L parking lot across from Victory Park.The borough is actively seeking vendors to participate in the farmer's market. There will be no fee for vendors.Anyone interested in participating should call the borough office at 610-767-2131.Bicycle Safety DaysThe borough also announced the dates, times and locations for its three Bicycle Safety Day events.Each event will run on a Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon.• May 9 at the Trailhead, off Main Street• May 16 at the West End Playground• May 23 at Bulldog Stadium.During these events, bicycles will be inspected and registered by police officers. Each bicycle will get a sticker, which will help police locate lost or stolen bicycles. The officers will also share safety tips with participants.The sticker fee is $2. The cost to the borough will be 75 cents per sticker. The borough is purchasing 100 stickers and the council has agreed that the revenue generated from these events will go to the Slatington Police Department.Council also announced dates for the Community Yard Sale, which will be May 9 and 10. Council is encouraging all residents of Slatington to participate. The borough will waive the permit requirements and registration fee. There is no set start or ending time.Sesquicentennial history bookAll available copies of the Slatington Sesquicentennial (150th) History book have sold out. Last month, there were still 100 books available. There are currently about 50 people on a reserve list should more copies be printed. A book signing was held in February at the Slatington Public Library.According to the Slatington 150th Anniversary Facebook page, the books were shipped on March 7 for those who live too far away to pick them up.Preordered copies may be picked up from 4 to 8 this evening at the Vigilant Fire Company in the first-floor meeting room.It has not been determined if a second printing will be done. If so, there should be an announcement within a few days.The first printing was 500 copies.
