Everything Nice opening at new location

A Jim Thorpe business owner forced to relocate her gift shop has found a home for it on Race Street in the borough.

Beth Beers is hosting a grand opening celebration from 6-8 p.m. today for the Everything Nice Gift Shop at its new location, 31 Race St."We're extremely excited and fortunate to have found a space here," Beers said. "This is a beautiful street filled with other great shops, and my hope is that we all complement each other and draw business to each other."Fortunately for Beers, the move wasn't a long one. In fact, it was roughly 500 feet.Everything Nice had called the first floor of the Hooven Mercantile Building, 41 Susquehanna St., home for 31 years.Matthew Rechs and his partners at Hooven Hall LLC purchased the 132-year-old Hooven building from David L. Kuhn in July for $225,000.With Rechs having other plans for the first floor, Beers was notified in January she would have to move. It was a tough pill to swallow for Beers, who was 12 years old when her mother, Judith Neeb, started the gift shop.Cue the happy ending. While searching for a new space, Beers caught wind of the availability on Race Street. A potential tenant found out Beers was interested and gladly stepped aside."I think it just goes to show how incredible this community is," Beers said on Tuesday as she put the finishing touches on her shop. "For that person to say, Beth needs the space more than I do, is such a blessing. I was floored."Everything Nice will continue to offer country décor, candles, souvenirs and more. Relics from the old shop have also made the move including the 1960s six-piece "Monkey Machine Band," playing music for only a quarter.Beers said the Carbon County commissioners have been very supportive during the transition and plan to attend tonight. A ribbon cutting will be held around 6:30 p.m."It's my night to say thank you to the community for all of their support," Beers said.
