Carbon lighting project finished

Carbon County's lighting retrofit project is complete.

On Thursday, the commissioners voted to extend the completion date from Feb. 20 to Feb. 23. The reason was to allow for the last lights to be finished by Electric Power Savers LLC of Camp Hill. The project began in December. The county had until Feb. 28 to have the project completed under the terms of the grants that were secured to cover the nearly $110,000 price tag.Electric Power Savers installed 40 LED exit signs, 1,583 fluorescent light conversion kits and 127 light fixture kits in the courthouse, courthouse annex, 76 Susquehanna St. building and the prison. The county hired Electric Power Savers, who submitted the apparent low bid of $38,400, to install the fixtures that were purchased from Grainger and Friedman Electric through the Pennsylvania State Costars program at a cost of $70,779.The county received a $48,284 matching grant from Northeast Pennsylvania Alliance through the NEPA Efficient Lighting Grant program and an additional $19,861 from NEPA after another county cut part of its project, freeing up some funds. In addition, there is an anticipated PPL rebate of approximately $33,000 that the county should receive.Previously, Commissioner William O'Gurek said the county would see an annual savings of $23,806 on its light bills. The lighting retrofit project has been in the works for approximately three years. In other matters the Carbon County commissioners made a number of personnel moves during their meeting on Thursday. They include:• Accept the resignation of William J. Kirklosky of Summit Hill as a seasonal park ranger II, Parks, effective March 3.• Hire Kasaundra L. Barclay of Summit Hill and Danielle R.
