New Ross building should be finished in December

Ross Township supervisors expect to have a new municipal building by Dec. 1.

Bids to erect a 3,000-square-foot, single-story building with prefabricated wooden trusses will be accepted until April 6. Supervisors hope to award construction contracts at a special meeting April 13, with work required to begin no later than April 20.The township originally agreed to build a new municipal building on Anchorage Road after an August 2013 shooting during a supervisors' meeting resulted in the deaths of three township residents. The new building will be built next to the old one.Original contract proposals were rejected as too high just after last Labor Day, when bids greatly exceeded the township's estimated $530,000 project cost. Ross officials believe contractors will be better able to evaluate and submit competitive proposals this time, with a longer time frame to make estimates.Modest reductions have been made in the original design in hopes of reducing costs. The township will use a $369,000 state grant to pay for the bulk of the work.Distributed by Tribune Content Agency LLC
