Prison terms handed out in DUIs

Three defendants who previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence were sentenced Thursday in Carbon County court to prison terms.

Judge Joseph J. Matika presided.Matthew D. Lamanna, 25, of Beaver Meadows, was sentenced to serve 90 days in prison followed by 57 months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program, with the first nine months on electronic monitoring.Lamanna was arrested on Feb. 9, 2014, along Broad Street by Beaver Meadows police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Lamanna entered an inpatient rehabilitation program for 28 days, which was credited against his prison term. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $2,500, zero tolerance for D&A use, continue his outpatient counseling, license suspended for 18 months, and render 100 hours of community service when released on parole.He will begin serving his remaining 62 days in prison on Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. He was granted work release privileges.Andrew Anthony Carino, 27, of Towamensing Township, was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail followed by 59 months in the IPP with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring.He was arrested on Aug. 23, 2014, along Route 443. A blood test revealed a controlled substance in his system.Carino was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, have his license suspended for 18 months, zero tolerance for D&A use, and continue his outpatient counseling.He was given credit for 21 days spent in an inpatient rehab program. He began serving the remaining nine days on Feb. 20 and will serve them on three consecutive three-day weekends.Lance McLeod, 55, of Tresckow, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail.He was arrested on Aug. 2, 2014, by Weatherly police along Main Street following a vehicle stop. He refused a blood test and lost his license for a year for the refusal.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, another one-year license suspension, and was ordered to continue his outpatient counseling.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. Feb. 28.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,500, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.Pleads guiltySean Richard O'Brien, 26, of Blakeslee, pleaded guilty to one count of DUI.He was arrested on July 19, 2014, along Route 903 by Kidder Township police. A test showed 0.13 BAC.O'Brien is currently an inmate in the Monroe County prison on a parole violation, serving a six-month sentence.Matika deferred sentencing so O'Brien could obtain a D&A evaluation after his release.
