Woman is charged with bringing drugs into prison

A Kunkletown woman has been charged with bringing illegal drugs into the county prison in Nesquehoning.

Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean T. Smith said he has charged Jacqueline R. Homschek, 23, of 3330 Aspen Road, with one count each of possession of a controlled substance, contraband by an inmate, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Smith, at 7:40 a.m. Jan. 29 he received a call from Mahoning Township Police Chief Audie Mertz.Mertz reported that while placing Homschek in the county prison on other unrelated charges, and during a strip search by a female corrections officer, the suspect was found to have a syringe in her shoe, heroin packets in her bra and a used syringe in her coat pocket.After consulting with Assistant District Attorney Seth Miller, Mertz met Smith later in the day and turned over the items found on Homschek.Smith then tested the powder substance and it was positive for heroin.At 1:59 p.m. that day Smith interviewed Homschek at the prison. She waived her Miranda rights and admitted the items found on her was heroin and the syringes were hers.Homschek was later arraigned on the charges before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford, with bail set at $2,000 straight cash. She was then returned to the prison.
