PMC opens medical center in the West End

Monroe County residents now have a central location to receive their medical care close to home under one roof in the West End.

Amid much fanfare, a grand opening was held for the new $6 million Pocono Medical Center West End Healthcare Center in Brodheadsville on Thursday.A standing-room-only crowd gathered to celebrate the new, two-story, 30,000-square-foot building at 120 Burrus Blvd. in Chestnuthill Township.The center combines doctors from the current Pocono Medical Center family practice with specialists from Riverside Rehab, Mountain Valley Orthopedics, and Pocono Eye Associates.It offers on-site medical services provided include primary care; OB/GYN; PMC immediate care; pediatrics; cardiology; general surgery; hematology/medical oncology; behavioral health; occupational medicine; and lab and X-ray.Pocono Medical Center President and CEO Jeff Snyder welcomed those in attendance.Snyder thanked the Pocono Health System board of directors, as well as other organizations, "for this much-needed and vital project."He said the mission is to "provide excellent care close to home, and this new facility was designed and built to do just that."Pocono Medical Center Senior Vice President Steve Cunningham gave an overview of the medical services and strategy."The core of our services is family medicine practice," he said. "This building is the result of so many dedicated people."Among those clearly excited were Dr. Fred Barnes of Mountain Valley Orthopedics."Now, we're going to bring our practice here and make it a lot more convenient for people of the West End," Barnes said. "Instead of people having to go all over, they'll only have to be under one roof."Linda Sales Mamary offered brief remarks on behalf of Riverside Rehab, which already has an established service in the West End.Debbie Giunta also attended from Pocono Eye Associates.A ribbon cutting ceremony followed and was headed by Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce officials Bob Phillips and Pat Metzger.State Rep. Jack Rader Jr. and state Sen. Mario Scavello each presented plaques as a certificate of recognition.Afterward, a brief tour of the facility was conducted by medical center staff.The hospital didn't have to pay for the land because ESSA Bank & Trust Company donated the property.
