Borough Police Chief Sean Smith and officer Timothy Wuttke arrested Tyquan Shakeem Owens, 18, of Lansford Court in Lansford on Jan. 22 in connection with the armed robbery of two girls, ages 12 and 13, on Jan. 17.Three accomplices, Izael Flores, 18, of Willow Lane, Nesquehoning; a 16-year-old male whose name has not been released but is being charged as an adult; and Elijah Frey, 18, of East Railroad Street, Nesquehoning, were arrested and arraigned last week.Owens is being charged with three counts of criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, three counts of robbery, one count theft by unlawful taking, one count receiving stolen property and one count simple assault. He was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek. Bail was set at $100,000 unsecured.According to the affidavit, at 7:45 p.m. Jan. 17, patrolman Robert Blisard was dispatched to a possible robbery in the 300 block of East Center Street.Blisard made contact with the victims, two female juveniles, who told him that they were approached by a group of six males who demanded their phones and "stuff."Three members of the group, wearing bandannas, then produced handguns and another male again demanded the girls' phones. The armed men then physically pushed their handguns into the girls' ribs and arms and took one of their phones. Two of the other suspects stayed behind while the girls begged them to get the phone back.Blisard caught up with the two men, identified as Frey and Owens, a few blocks away, but both denied involvement in the robbery. The girls told police they recognized Frey, who also goes by the name "Big E."In an interview with police on Jan. 18, Owens said he lied to Blisard and Smith about not being involved. He said he was walking behind Frey and four other friends when they walked over to the girls and took the phone, valued at $499.Owens said he didn't know the names of the other four males, but said Frey was involved with the robbery. He also confirmed that four of the suspects were wearing bandannas and said that two bandannas were black, one was brown and the other was red.Owens said he walked up after the males wearing the bandannas ran and that the two victims were crying and begging Frey to get the phone back.On Monday, Wuttke and Smith made contact with the victims to ask the color of bandannas and to see if Owens was telling the truth. Both victims said that the bandannas were dark colored and one was definitely red. They also said the black male with Frey, identified as Owens, was with the group the entire time during the crime.
