MAHANOY TOWNSHIP One person is in custody after a high-speed chase that began on the Pittston bypass and ended with the suspect apprehended on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County near Mahanoy City.

The name and age of the male suspect were not released on Sunday night, although the person was was taken to the hospital after his apprehension, state police said.Pittston city police initiated pursuit of the wanted male, with state troopers from the Wyoming, Hazleton and Frackville barracks joining in the chase as the vehicle made its way down the Interstate, troopers confirmed.The suspect reportedly was stopped after he twice ran over spikes intended to stop his vehicle, state police said.Troopers said further details were not available Sunday night. Efforts to reach Pittston police were unsuccessful.
