Man sentenced for burglary, drug count

A Schuylkill County man was sentenced in Carbon County court on Thursday to a county prison term on burglary and a drug count, but won't be serving any more time in jail.

Matthew D. Komishock, 29, of Coaldale, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve a total of nine to 23 months on the burglary count and a year probation on a possession of a controlled substance charge. However, Matika gave Komishock credit for 154 days he spent in the Salvation Army's rehabilitation program in Wilkes-Barre, plus 119 days he spent in jail on the charge for a total of 273 days, which is past his minimum, and he was paroled.Matika congratulated Komishock for completing the inpatient program and turning his life around. "He look like a new person today," Matika said.Komishock said the Salvation Army program was the best thing to ever happen to him. He said he feels great, has a job lined up, and has re-established a relationship with his young daughter, which he lost because of his drug use."I feel great about myself and my life," Komishock told the court. He said he realizes his drug addiction is a daily battle but the Salvation Army program "gave me the tools" to handle it.Komishock was arrested on the burglary count on Feb. 20, 2014, for an entry to a home along Springgarden Street in Lansford. About $50 in cash was taken. He was charged with the drug count on Dec. 3, 2013, following a vehicle stop along Route 209 by Nesquehoning police.Matika also ordered Komishock to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for D&A use, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole, and render 50 hours of community service.Although the victim of the break-in did not request restitution, Komishock said he would repay the victim the $50 he took. He said, "I want to repay her for her loss."
