West Penn Township will be served by two volunteer fire companies under one fire chief, according to an agreement reached in the Schuylkill County Courts.

The issue went to the county courts after township officials passed a resolution to name the newly created West Penn Township Fire Company No. 1 as the only official fire company for the township, effectively putting the Andreas Fire Company, which had existed for 57 years, out of business.Township supervisors will pass a resolution officially recognizing both companies.
