Four charged with attempted homicide

Four men have been charged in connection with a 2-year-old shooting incident outside a bar in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police announced that Kerey Cousar, 29, and Ronnie Washington, 26, both of Tobyhanna; Gregory Cousar, 41, of White Haven; and Eric Williams, 38, of Marshalls Creek, have been charged in a shooting incident that occurred on March 5, 2012, outside the Copa Bar on Fork Street in Mount Pocono.Three of the men were arrested recently after warrants were secured for their arrests. Police said Kerey Cousar was arrested on Dec. 5 in Stroudsburg, Washington was arrested on Dec. 7 at his home, and Gregory Cousar was served a warrant at the state correctional institution at Pittsburgh, where he is serving a sentence on unrelated charges.The two Cousars and Washington have been charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, criminal conspiracy to commit homicide, and aggravated assault. Both Cousars are also charged with persons not to possess firearms.Williams was charged previously with carrying a firearm without a license and persons not to possess a firearm, both felonies.According to police, officers responded to the Copa Bar at 2:55 a.m. to a report of shots fired. On scene, officers learned that several shots had been fired with at least two people being struck.Through the course of the investigation it was learned Gregory Cousar had been shot in the stomach and was taken by private vehicle to the Geisinger Medical Center, Plains Township, Luzerne County. Police later learned that Eric Williams was taken to Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment for multiple gunshot wounds and had undergone surgery.Police said all were involved in the bar incident.The day of the incident, Kerey Cousar was charged with hindering apprehension and providing false information to law enforcement. He originally told officers he was with Washington in a bar in Stroudsburg when he got a call that Gregory Cousar had been shot and was at Geisinger. Police later learned that Kerey Cousar and Washington participated in the shooting incident at the bar.The investigation revealed that Williams was having a birthday party at the bar. It was also learned that Williams and the two Cousars had past problems at the bar when Williams, acting as a bouncer, denied the Cousars admittance to the bar. That occurred about three weeks earlier.When the Cousars and Washington arrived at the bar, Williams said he gathered up his family and gifts and exited the bar. As he exited, he passed Gregory Cousar. Cousar, Williams said, shot him in the back as he passed. He said he pulled a gun he had on him and fired back. Williams also told police he knew that Kerey Cousar and Washington were also shooting at him.Washington was arraigned on the charges with bail set at $100,000 straight cash and he was committed to the county prison in Snydersville. Kerey Cousar is also an inmate in the county prison. Williams, who was charged in September 2012, is free on bail.
