Two weekend concerts at Penn's Peak

It's another big concert weekend at Penn's Peak, with star performers visiting tonight and Saturday.

Tonight, two of country music's up-and-coming stars will be appearing. Jerrod Niemann headlines with Chris Lane in a show beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets for the double-header are just $29.Saturday night, Kenny Loggins, who had a platinum record with "Footloose," will be taking the stage at 8 p.m. Tickets for that show are $41 and $44.Niemann, a native of Kansas, is on his "Get the Buzz Back" tour. Penn's Peak is one of 15 venues hosting the tour, which features Lane, who had a hit with "Broken Windshield View.""Music is a drug. It's one of the only ways to heal certain hearts, clear certain minds and soothe certain souls," Niemann said. "The Get Your Buzz Back Tour is about letting music cure you temporarily and getting your everyday problems off your mind for a night."Niemann recently toured with Keith Urban. He also has released his third album, "High Noon.""On my first two albums, I tried to cover all the music I enjoy," Jerrod Niemann said. "This time, we mashed it all together and that's what you do when you're really attempting to create your own sound. And as it all gelled, I think it brought us into our own pure sound for the first time."On "High Noon," Niemann continues to pursue the innovative sonic approach that has defined his identity in today's country music, while bearing down even harder on the rock-solid songwriting that first brought him to Nashville's attention. The debut single is "Drink to that All Night."Jerrod Niemann exploded onto the scene with his chart-topping major-label debut, 2010's Judge Jerrod & The Hung Jury. The album included the number one smash "Lover, Lover," and the follow-up single, "What Do You Want."Lane has been making waves in the country music scene in North Carolina, selling out club shows all across the state. He has played well over 500 shows the past few years and opened for The Band Perry, Eli Young Band, Lee Brice, Chris Young, Brantley Gilbert, among others.Grammy-winnerKenny LogginsKenny Loggins' four-decade-plus career has brought him from the top of the charts to the toast of the Grammys. He's had smash hits on Hollywood's favorite soundtracks, rocked worldwide stages, and found his way into children's hearts while bringing his soulful, beautiful voice to platinum albums of a stunning variety of genres. His gift for crafting deeply emotional music is unparalleled, and it's been a part of his life as long as he can remember. When Loggins was 7 years old, he watched his two older brothers struggle to write a song, "and I remember thinking, it just can't be that hard," he laughs. Around a year later, inspired by the film Yankee Doodle Dandy, he realized songwriting was his future.Though he's got 12 platinum albums, a pair of Grammys, and hits on almost all the Billboard charts under his belt, Loggins is far from done. With more Blue Sky Riders tunes and a children's book in the works, he's still looking forward to what's next."I feel very lucky that this is the way I make my living, and not a lot of people can say that," Loggins says. "I've been lucky that I love what I do and I get to keep doing it."Asked what can fans expect from his performance at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, he responded, "I think they can expect to have a fun time and hear some of their favorite songs of mine. When I go to other artists' concerts there's usually one or two songs I'm dying to hear, and if I don't hear them I'm disappointed. I know folks come for certain songs and I always try to deliver them. Therefore my Jim Thorpe performance will be a "hits show."It's a return appearance to Penn's Peak for Loggins. He said, "I love the views of the mountains. When I'm on stage with all that natural beauty and fans surrounding me, it's an amazing energy to feel."It's hard to believe that its been 30 years since "Footloose" swept the nation. When looking back at that movie and his involvement with the soundtrack, he said, "Yeah, time flies when you're having fun ... I think it's every artist's dream to be aligned with an iconic project like 'Footloose.' I had no idea that it would be such a huge success, and it's really cool to see how the song has withstood the test of time."Loggins has had huge success with the Blue Sky Riders Kickstarter campaign. He said, "Crowdfunding was new to us. We had no idea what to expect. Our fans showed such strong support during the kickstarter campaign that not only did they help us reach our goal, we even reached our stretch goals."He added, "It was a great way to interact with our fans and have them literally be part of the making of our next record. The funds from the campaign are being used to record the album and market it. Currently, we're scheduled to release it next fall. We hope everyone likes the finished product."The most memorable moments of Loggins' career?"My career has been filled with memorable moments," he said. "Winning the Grammys jump out especially. My duets with Stevie, writing with Mike McDonald, writing and singing with Steve Perry. Making 'Leap of Faith.' The success of my 'Return to Pooh Corner' CD. I always have a lot of gratitude, especially that I still get to sing for my living."
