Tamaqua man charged with molesting girls

A Tamaqua man was placed under house arrest after being charged with molesting two juvenile girls. The suspected abuse was reported to Tamaqua police on Saturday.

Harold Paul Trevorah, 69, of 619 Arlington St., was charged with multiple counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault, aggravated indecent assault on a person less than 13 years of age, indecent assault, corruption of minors, and endangering the welfare of children. The charges were filed on Monday by Tamaqua Cpl. Henry Woods.Police first learned of the crimes on Saturday when the mother of an 11-year-old girl called to report her daughter had been molested. The woman said she learned Trevorah had touched the genital area of two juvenile girls, including her daughter.Officer Karl Harig spoke to Trevorah, who said he knew police had come to speak to him because he "had molested the two children."Woods spoke to both victims, separately. Both girls said the touching had started years earlier, when they were 7. Neither told anyone about the touching because Trevorah had told them it "was their little secret."Woods then spoke to Trevorah, who said, "What I did was wrong and I am going to take responsibility for my actions."Trevorah was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, who set bail at $50,000 unsecured, partly due to a medical condition that now confines Trevorah to a wheelchair. The judge also set two conditions to the bail, setting up a virtual house arrest for Trevorah, and banning him from any contact with children.
