Fleetwood run/walk set

The West End Park and Open Space Commission will hold the first Annual Dave Fleetwood Memorial Trail Run/Walk at the West End Regional Park at 9 a.m. Sunday. The 3.1-mile race and walk honors the late Dave Fleetwood, a Chestnuthill Township supervisor who was killed during a public meeting on Aug. 5, 2013, at the Ross Township Municipal Building in Saylorsburg.

"Dave was a dedicated public servant and worked diligently for the community," says Bernie Kozen, executive director of WEPOSC.The run/walk is open to all ages and abilities and the new "Dave Fleetwood Memorial Trail" will be available for those wishing a leisurely walk on a firm and stable surface accessible to all wheeled devices. All proceeds will fund the "Dave Fleetwood Memorial Scholarship" to recognize a Pleasant Valley High School graduate who exemplifies the outstanding attributes of Fleetwood.Later on Sunday at the Chestnuthill Township Park, there will be a Community Appreciation Day to recognize all the volunteers who give of their time back to the community as Fleetwood did so tirelessly for years. There are free concerts planned, featuring the music of the Steel Creek Band along with exhibitions, demonstrations and other entertainment.Registration forms are now available at the Chestnuthill Township Park, the Chestnuthill Township municipal building, both on Route 715, Brodheadsville or contact Kozen at 570-992-9733 or
