Lehighton announces scholarships for seniors

The hard work of the Lehighton High School senior class was recently recognized at the school's All School Academic Awards Assembly.

A total of 66 different awards were given away to this year's graduating students.DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING LEADER OF CHARACTER presented to a junior for outstanding performance in academics, athletics, community service, citizenship and leadership. Kyle Collins received a school plaque and invitation to Award Recognition Day at U.S. Military Academy.GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARDS- presented from Sen. Argall's and Sen. Yudichak's offices to a senior boy and girl who exemplify the qualities of good citizenship through outstanding character, leadership and scholarship. Recipients received certificates. (Sen. Argall) Michelle Pomposello and Devin Roth Award. (Sen. Yudichak) Nicole Schnell Award and Kyle HigginsARMY RESERVE NATIONAL SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARDS to male and female who have excelled in a sport and academic performance. Jaclyn Jordan and Peter Phelan each received a medal and certificate.BAUSCH & LOMB HONORARY SCIENCE AWARD presented to a junior in recognition of outstanding achievement, good character and superior intellectual promise in the field of science. Brianna Karpowiz received a certificate.C. ARTHUR & ELIZABETH WALTERS HAMMERS SCHOLARSHIP is presented to four seniors planning to further their education, well-rounded students in top 1/5 of class, demonstrate good citizenship, member of 2 or more specified activities. Christi Beddiges, Kyle Higgins, Peter Phelan and Michele Pomposello received $4,000 a year for four years.DR. ROLAND WOTRING SCHOLARSHIP presented to two deserving seniors based on financial need and desire to further their education. Allison Butrie and Alyssa Huntington received $2,500 a year for four years.THE HILL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP presented to a senior student in the top 25 percent of the class, involved in at least two co-curricular activities, preference to student involved in the arts. Paige Steigerwalt received $2,500 a year for two years.THE MAJOR GENERAL & MRS. BERT A. DAVID AWARD presented to a member of the senior class who is academically in the top fifth of the class, who has been a contributing participant in two or more student activities, and who participated in an athletic activity for at least three years and earned at least two letters during the senior year. Gwen Remaley received $4,000.CLASS OF 1957 SCHOLARSHIPS are presented to one senior boy and one senior girl planning to continue education, top 40 percent of class, involved in volunteerism, service to community and school. Kamara Litchauer and Chris Windbeck received $2,500.DOWD FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS presented to two deserving seniors, furthering their education, based as much as possible on financial need. Kendall McLaughlin and Tyler Kerschner received $1,250 a year for two years.GREGORY "SEGAL" EBBERT SCHOLARSHIP is presented to one senior boy and girl continuing education, good character, participant in athletics and community involvement. Lauren Armbruster, Alyssa Huntington, Kyle Troch, Tiffany Thompson and Taylor Yurasits received $1,500.HARRY & DORIS HUTCHINSON SCHOLARSHIP presented to a senior boy or girl recognizing merit and superior citizenship, high academics, etc. Devin Frantz received $1,500.DYLAN C. KRUM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP presented to a senior portraying good citizenship, musically inclined member of high school band and other musical involvement, strength in science/technology, active church involvement, academic success. Rebecca Nagy and Devin Frantz received $1,500.LEHIGH FIRE CO. #1 SCHOLARSHIPS presented to two deserving seniors, well-rounded, continuing education, not based solely on financial need, students active with community volunteer services priority Nicole Schnell and Catrina Strubinger received $1,000.MARIAN CHRISTMAN SCHOLARSHIPS presented to senior boys and girls; top 20 percent of class, well-rounded and deserving, planning to continue their education, not based solely on financial need. Jaclyn Jordan, Matthew McGeehan, Atasha Rehrig and Kayla Troutman received $1,000.JEAN EVERETT MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP presented to deserving senior pursuing a career in nursing. Special consideration to community volunteerism, as well as a written essay. Matthew Stilwell received $1,000.ANNUAL ANDY KNAPPENBERGER SCHOLARSHIP is presented to a senior in the top 25 percent of the class, continuing education, special consideration to participant in golf and planning career in horticulture or turf management. Max McCandless received $1,000.CRAIG L. BARRY MEMORIAL FUND presented to a senior in top of class, two-year varsity sports participant, two years in booster club program, letter winning at least two high school sports, will be furthering education. Schyler Cordova received $1,000.LORETTA Q. BIMLER MEMORIAL AWARD presented to a senior of outstanding character, having a compassionate nature, and should intend to pursue a career in special education or a related field. Emily Mantz received $1,000.GAVIN L. KRUM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP presented to a senior continuing education, involved in school music groups, especially band; display creativity; strength in applied arts/sciences (architecture, drafting); church involvement; academic success even in challenging situations Thomas Youngkin received $1,000.BO TKACH UNDER THE HELMET & HAT SCHOLARSHIP presented to senior boy or girl furthering education, community minded, sincere concern for others, reward for helping gathers when expecting nothing in return. Nick Newton received $1,000.FRANKLIN TWP. LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS Franklin Township resident, continuing education, above average grades, consideration to need, community service, extracurricular activities along with essay regarding community service and/or future goals. Christi Beddiges and Kyle Troch received $1,000.KEITH J. HENRITZY MEMORIAL AWARD presented to a senior who is continuing their education, needy and deserving. Special consideration is given to financial need. Alton Eidem received $1,000.MALLARD MARKET SCHOLARSHIP presented to a deserving senior, continuing education, school/community involvement and good work ethic. Lauren Armbruster received $1,000.EARLE R. KOONS SCHOLARSHIPS presented to needy and deserving students based upon scholarship, personality, financial need and desire. Kayla Troutman and Jaclyn Jordan received $1,000, Emily Schaude received $800, and Michael Perkins and Amy Smith received $500.L.A.E.A. SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF DANIEL I. FARREN presented by the Lehighton Area Education Association to a senior on the basis of academic achievement, character and financial need. Sara Wingert received $1,000 and Lauren Armbruster received $500.WILLIAM H. & SADIE S. LONG SCHOLARSHIP presented to full-time students at Kutztown State University. Selection based on scholarship, personality, financial need and desire for college education. Kelsey Binder received $900.BEVERLY DOLGOPOL CHEERLEADING AWARD presented to a senior Cheerleader in top 30 percent of class, well-rounded and deserving. Catrina Strubinger received $500.ST. LUKE'S MINERS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS presented to two seniors in the top 25 percent of the class who are enrolling at a four-year college in the field of Health Care or Science. (Medical Staff) Jaclyn Jordan received $500 (could be for two years) and (Board of Trustees) Kayla Troutman received $500 (could be for two years)HUNTER MECKES SCHOLARSHIP presented to a senior boy and girl, furthering education, member of LHS soccer team, played at least two years in LASC, displaying good citizenship through involvement in school/community organizations. Schyler Cordova and Thomas Youngkin received $500.LEON KUNKLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP presented to a member of the varsity Baseball team who plans to further his education; also based on financial need and participation in American Legion Baseball. Nicholas Hill received $500.LEHIGHTON HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY AWARD presented to a senior or seniors going into the field of education. Sara Wingert received $500.GNADEN HUETTEN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AUXILIARY AWARD presented to a senior going into the health care field. Lauren Burrows received $500.BRETT FLEXER SCHOLARSHIP presented to senior in top 50 percent of class, furthering education, participant in at least one sport and one extracurricular activity; demonstrate good sportsmanship, good discipline, financial need. Corey German received $500.STUDENT COUNCIL MEMORIAL AWARD presented as a memorial to members of the Lehighton Area School District who have died while in membership. Criteria for selection is character, academic achievement and financial need. Kamara Litchauer received $300.BOWMANSTOWN-PARRYVILLE LIONS CLUB AWARD presented to the student from the Parryville-East Penn area with the highest scholastic standings. Peter Phelan received $300.CARBON COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP presented to two seniors who demonstrate a strong work ethic, integrity in relationship with others, has contributed to school and community, and plans to further their education. Catrina Strubinger and Anthony Farano received $250.LORI MARKLEY-RUDELITCH SOFTBALL SCHOLARSHIP presented to a deserving senior letter winner on the softball tam, planning to further her education. Emily Steigerwalt received $250.BEATRICE BELTZNER MEMORIAL AWARD presented to two seniors who are actively pursuing an education in a medical-related field. Danielle Laub and Anthony Rossino received $250.ELWOOD MILLER AMVETS POST 106 SCHOLARSHIP presented to a senior student going to an institute of higher learning; awarded on the basis of academic achievement, character and financial need. James Farano received $250.EUGENE W. FLICKER SCHOLARSHIP presented to a needy and deserving student. Selection is based upon scholarship, leadership, service and musical activity. Michael Perkins received $250.MAHONING TOWNSHIP LIONS CLUB AWARDS presented to senior boy and girl from Mahoning Township with the highest scholastic standing. Given on the basis of good character and good academic standing as well as a written essay. Elizabeth Beck received $150.GACHTIN BAMBIL AWARD presented to senior member of the yearbook staff who has contributed significant time and effort into production of yearbook, well-rounded and deserving. Preference to student who attended majority of elementary years at Shull-David. Recipient should have attended the majority of his/her elementary years at East Penn elementary school.
