Two injured, one flown from four-vehicle crash

Two people were injured in a four-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday in Schuylkill County. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred at 12:48 p.m. at the intersection of routes 209 and 901 in Norwegian Township.

Troopers said William R. Coles, 83, of Branchdale, driving a 2006 Subaru Outback, pulled out from a stop sign on 209 to go onto 901 and pulled directly into the path of a 2008 Acura driven by Madeline E. Suender, 18, of Pottsville, who was eastbound on 901 causing the two vehicles to collide.After impact the Acura crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2013 Nissan driven by Joseph Polinsky, 63, of Minersville, who was westbound. After impact the Subaru spun counter-clockwise and struck a 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by Amanda N. Pothering, 19, of Llewellyn. Pothering was not injured.Polinsky was injured and flown by helicopter to the Hershey Medical Center. Coles was also injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville.Passengers in Suender's car were Hannah R. Corbachio, 18, and Madison M. Sterner, 17, both of Pottsville, and Tiffany M. Zerbe, 17, of Eagleville. None were injured.Troopers said the road was closed for about an hour.
