Schuylkill man given prison term in drug case

A Schuylkill County man was sentenced to a county prison term in Carbon County court on Tuesday after previously pleading guilty to drug-related charges.

Anthony William Hill, 25, of Coaldale, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve nine to one day less 24 months in prison on a charge of delivery of a controlled substance-methamphetamine. He was placed on probation for six months on a possession of drug paraphernalia, concurrent with the first charge.Hill was arrested on the delivery charge following an incident at 173 W. Ridge St. Apt. 3, in Lansford, where agents of the state Attorney General's office executed a search warrant and found meth in the apartment. He was arrested on the paraphernalia charge for an incident on Aug. 28, 2013, at 135-141 W. Patterson St., Lansford, by agents of the AG office. He was charged in connection with the operation of a methamphetamine lab. That charge was dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney's office.Hill told the court, "I realize everything I did was wrong." He said he wanted to serve his time and get everything over with and start a new life.Matika told the defendant, "You have a serious drug problem." He said there are several ways to address the problem but ultimately it's up to Hill to decide how to address the problem.Matika also told him he had considered giving him a state prison sentence but changed his mind after considering the facts of the case.In addition to the jail term, Matika ordered Hill to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, supply a DNA sample, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, pay court costs, which average about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee when released on parole, and render 100 hours of community service when released from prison. He was given credit for 117 days already spent in jail on the charges.
