Panther Valley senior becomes an Eagle Scout

Patrick Iezzoni, 18, of Summit Hill, became an Eagle Scout Saturday during a ceremony held in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Summit Hill.

Iezzoni, a senior at Panther Valley High School, restored decks at the Carbon County Environmental Center in Summit Hill for his Eagle Scout Project.He was presented with the award by Christopher Santore, Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 744.Iezzoni is the son of Chris Iezzoni and Janie Connor of Summit Hill.He has been involved in the Boy Scouts for six years.Iezzoni was presented with citations from state Rep. Doyle Heffley and Carbon County Commissioner William O'Gurek.Heffley, who is also an Eagle Scout, said the biggest skill learned in the Eagle Scout program is leadership."No matter where your life takes you, you're going to be a step ahead with leadership," Heffley said.Joseph Trimmel reviewed the renewal of Eagle Scout commitments.The Eagle Scout challenge was given by Anthony Stianchie.Jerry Snyder, assistant Scoutmaster, offered the Scout emblem.Readings were by Rita Benek, troop committee chair, and Maria Stianchie, Iezzoni's godmother.The invocation and benediction were presented by the Rev. Jim Bechtel.Special recognition was given by Iezzoni to John Quarmley, president of the Highwood Company in Hometown, who donated the wood for the environmental center project.Iezzoni is a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and the Panther Valley High School JROTC.At St. Joseph's Church, he is an altar server.In Scouting, he is a member of the Order of the Arrow.He is also a member of Harmony Scholars at Panther Valley.
