Heavy rain in forecast this weekend

The weekend could be a washout, with periods of heavy rain moving into the area Saturday and Sunday.

The National Weather Service says there’s a chance of 1 to 3 inches of rain falling over the area, resulting in flooding in areas with poor drainage.The forecast:Today:  Showers. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 48. Southwest wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.Tonight: A chance of showers, mainly before 2 a,m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

 Saturday Periods of rain, mainly after 2 p.m. Patchy fog between 7am and 8am. High near 49. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.Saturday Night: Periods of rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 38. North wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

 Sunday: Periods of rain, mainly before noon, then a chance of showers after noon. High near 47. North wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
