Funerals Monday for two Monroe shooting victims

Funeral services for the two Eldred Township shooting victims will take place on Monday.

Jeffrey A. Place, 54, and his stepson, Steven W. Powell, 30, were shot and killed Wednesday evening by neighbor, Garry Sherwood Flyte, in their home.Friends and family can offer their condolences for the two men from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Route 209, Gilbert. A short prayer service will happen at noon. Interment will be private.Place was the husband of Wendy (Edwards) Place. They were together since 1986 and celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary on April 29, 2013.He worked as a machine tender for Rock-Tenn in Delaware Water Gap.He is survived by his mother, Joan Place and her companion David Cassidy of Marshalls Creek; sons, Jerry of Saylorsburg, Jeffrey Jr. and Steven, both of South Carolina; a daughter, Tiffany of South Carolina; stepchildren, Trey Powell of Texas and Jason Powell of Nevada; three brothers and several grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.Powell was the son of Wendy (Edwards) Place and the late Jeffrey Place and Charles and JoAnn Powell of Dallas, Texas.He is survived by his mother, father, stepmother; his grandmother Joan Place and her companion David Cassidy; brothers Trey and Jason Powell and Jerry Place; two stepbrothers, Jeffrey Jr., and Steven Place; a stepsister, Tiffany Place; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.Memorial donations are being accepted to the family c/o Wendy Place, 422 Meixsell Valley Road, Saylorsburg, PA 18235, or through the website
