St. Paul's LutheranUpcoming events and activities for St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 123 W. White St., Summit Hill are as follows:On Sunday, Feb 23, Holy communion worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Sunday school classes beginning at 9 a.m. Visitors are welcome.Midweek Lenten service with soup and sandwiches will be served at 6:15 p.m. with worship beginning at 7 p.m.The Sunday school class will be doing a short, simple Easter skit on Easter Sunday during the worship service. Please note that classes may run until 10:15 a.m.The annual Easter egg hunt will be held on Easter morning during the regular class time. Donations of small, wrapped candy or treats that fit inside the eggs are appreciated and needed. Donations of light snacks and drinks are also welcome.Food pantryFood distribution dates for the Summit Hill Food Pantry are as follows: Tuesdays March 25, April 15, May 27, June 24, July 22, Aug. 26, Sept. 23, Oct. 28 and Mondays, Nov. 24 and Dec. 22.The food pantry is located in the Summit Hill Heritage Center on Hazard and Chestnut streets.Distribution will take place between 10-11:30 a.m. There is to be no parking in the alley before 9:45 a.m. and absolutely no parking in the vacant lot.Recipients are reminded to bring along extra strong shopping/tote bags.Panther ValleyLibrary open houseThe Panther Valley Public Library will host an open house from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5. The open house will showcase the improvements made to the library over the past two years.The library has been repainted with help from the board and community volunteers. New office equipment, computers and computer chairs have been added. There are now eight computers available for patrons to use. New library shelving has been installed increasing floor space.The library has books for all and audio books and large print books are also available.The library is keeping up with the community by providing DVDs, books and educational programs.Programming at the library includes preschool story hour, adult education classes and a six-week summer reading program.The project was financed by a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.NesquehoningVFW Ladies AuxiliaryThe regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held on March 11 at the Post Home. President Ellen Driesbach presided.The annual Loyalty Day Program will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1.Voice of Democracy local winner at Panther Valley High School and second place District 20 entrant Megan Heckman and her parents will be guests at the District Banquet being held on April 12 at Tobyhanna.A donation was approved to the Eagle Scout project being constructed by candidate Jacob Snyder.The next regular meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at 1 p.m. at the Post Home. Nomination and election of officers will be held. Anyone unable to attend the meeting and willing to take an office should make their intentions known in writing before the meeting.End of the year reports are due by April 9.Membership currently stands at 60 of 66 paid for 2014.
