Lehighton fire displaces four

A Lehighton family of four was displaced after a late-night fire tore through their Bridge Street home.

The home of John Johnson at 357 Bridge St. sustained major damage from the fire that started just before midnight.Lehighton firefighters were assisted by crews from Mahoning Valley and Franklin Township, as well as Lehighton Ambulance. Firefighters remained on the scene through the early morning hours.Lehighton police officers Matthew Bender and Ryan Kennedy were assisted by Mahoning police officer Tyler Meek in helping save several pets from the residence including two dogs, a parrot, and a pot-bellied pig named Stella Dora von Swineburg.Some of the family's cats perished in the fire, according to police.Both sides of the duplex sustained damages.The cause of the fire remains unknown.The state police fire marshal will be investigating.
