Two face drug charges following raid of Jim Thorpe residence

Two Jim Thorpe residents are facing drug charges following a raid Friday at a borough residence.

Gregory William Acevedo, 49, and Joseph Francis Demuro, 29, both of 10 W. Sixth Street, were arraigned before District Judge Joseph Homanko of Weatherly.Homanko set bail at $40,000 straight for Acevedo and $40,000 straight for Demuro. Both were lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility.The raid happened at about 10:30 a.m. by members of the Carbon County Drug Task Force along with the Attorney General Bureau of Narcotics and the Jim Thorpe police department.Police said that inside the residence, they seized heroin, marijuana, several items of drug paraphernalia and over $3,000 in cash.The residence is only a block away from St. Joseph's Elementary School.Acevedo was charged with two counts of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and one count of possession of a controlled substance.A preliminary hearing was tentatively set for March 5 before District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe for both individuals.
