Amount of snow causes problems in Weissport

Weissport Council members on Tuesday listened to a complaint from a borough resident, who said that because the alley wasn't plowed five families did not have their garbage picked up.

The resident said while most people have garbage picked up in the front of their homes, these families were asked to put their trash in the alley as to not detract from the appearance of businesses on Bridge Street. He also noted that the alley is now open because he paid a private plow truck to open the alley."We need to reimburse you for that," said Sue Pywar, vice president of council."I'll swallow the plowing," he continued. "But I want the trash picked up."Council asked secretary Jillyan Sterling to contact the garbage company and ask them to return to Weissport for pickup for the five units.Pywar noted that Weissport has not gone over its snow plowing budget because the fund was not heavily used last year so there were remaining funds left for this year. The newest seated council member, Brenda Leiby asked if the borough workers could remove the large pile of snow on Bridge Street at the intersection by the church because she fears for the people who exit onto Bridge Street will get hit."It's a safety issue," Leiby said. "The snow should be moved. People have to exit on the street blind."Arland Moyer said that borough workers have put in many hours plowing snow."Our council is part time and they all have full-time jobs," said Moyer's wife, Lynette."My husband has spent all his time plowing," said Pywar. "He has things to do at home, too." Pywar's husband, Pete, is a borough worker and also has a full-time job.
