Lansford policeissue warrant afterdiscovering pot plants

Lansford police have issued a felony warrant for the arrest of Howard Pfeiffer, 47, whose last known address was 310 E. Patterson St., Lansford, on charges of unlawful delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance.

The charges stem from an incident on Oct. 1, 2013.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District judge Casimir Kosciolek by officer Jason Helmer, here's what happened:At 4:45 p.m. that day, Helmer was asked by the Carbon County sheriff's department to help serve a protection-from-abuse order against Pfeiffer. When he arrived, he and Deputy Dan McLean approached Pfeiffer, who was standing at the end of his yard. As they talked with Pfeiffer, Helmer noticed a large planter nearby, containing what appeared to be marijuana plants.Pfeiffer told police he liked to drink and described himself as a pot head.Police told him he was being served a PFA and would have to leave the property. Pfeiffer refused, saying that "this is my house and I'm not leaving. I'm going back inside. You'll have to shoot me."Police told him to stop, and he did. Asked about the plants, he told he never saw them before. He then admitted he did not own the house, and that police should talk to the property owner and his girlfriend, Bridget Murphy. Pfeiffer said the five plants probably grew from when he threw marijuana seeds and stems in the yard while he was having a cookout.Police determined the seeds were deliberately planted. Police talked to Murphy on Oct. 16, 2013. She denied the plants were hers and said Pfeiffer planted them. she said she'd asked him to get rid of them.
