Confiscated drug money turned over to AG office

Monies confiscated by state police following drug raids in novelty stores in two Schuylkill County Malls were turned over to the state Attorney General's office by an order issued by a Schuykill County judge.

Judge Jacqueline Russell, after a hearing, ordered $3,953 confiscated from Nirvana Closet Inc., at the Schuylkill Mall, and $3,550.50 from Dragon Chaser Emporium in the Fairlane Village Mall, totaling $7,503.50 be turned over to the state.The state police raid was conducted in February 2012 and they found bath salts being sold in the store. Under Senate Bill 1006, which became a law on Aug. 12, 2011, it was illegal to possess synthetic marijuana and bath salts.Summary appealZachary David King, 19, of 59 W. Moser Avenue, Coaldale, appealed a summary conviction by a magisterial district judge who found him guilty of exceeding the maximum speed limit by traveling 61.9 miles-per-hour in a 45 zone on West Penn Pike in West Penn Township.He was charged by West Penn Chief Brian Johnson.After a hearing Judge James P. Goodman reduced the fine from $57 to $35 plus $90 costs.Modify bailTrevor R. Christman, 19, of 223 E. St., Coaldale, petitioned the court for bail reduction from $75,000 cash and Senior Judge D. Michael Stine ruled Chirstiman was a flight risk requiring significant monetary and non-monetary conditions. However, bail was reduced it from $25,000 on each of three cases to $15,000 each for total cash bail of $45,000 with special conditions attached.Christiman must reside at the Coaldale address and shall not relocated without approval, shall not possses, consume or transport any alcohol or controlled subsance, shall seek gainful employment, shall not travel outside the Commonwealth without court approval, and shall be subject to random drug tests.Christman was cited by Tamaqua Officers Anthony Stannel and Thomas Rodgers, and is awaiting trial on charges of selling drugs in the borough.Revoke paroleJoseph James Forster II, 35, of 425 N. Railroad St., Tamaqua, had his parole revoked by President Judge William E. Baldwin and he was recommitted to the county prison and his 222 days of liberty were disallowed. However, he received credit for serving 117 days in prison. The judge ruled he will not consider an application for parole until Feb. 9, 2014.Forster pleaded guilty on July 27, 2012, of snatching a purse from a woman while she was leaving a taproom in Tamaqua on Nov. 26, 2011, and after serving three months in prison was released on parole.Revoke probationSteven Frederick Davis, 39, of 461 S. Cleveland St., McAdoo, had his probation revoked by Judge Baldwin and he was re-sentenced to undergo confinement in the county prison for not less than six to more than 23 months, and received credit for serving 65 days in prison.Davis pleaded guilty on Nov. 16, 2011, to retail theft from Walmart Store in Rush Township and was put on probation for 24 months.Pleads guiltySiobhan Catherine Amerman, 34, of 625 E. Mahanoy St., Mahanoy City, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft of leased property and was sentenced by Judge John E. Domalakes to serve three days to 11 months in the county prison followed by 12 months on probation, pay $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account, a $50 monthly supervision fee, and make restitution of $763.20 to Aaron's Rentals Store, Pottsville, for failing to return laptop. She was cited by Patrolman Joseph H. Murton.Corey Michael Vanetten, 36, of 1107 E. Pine St., Mahanoy City, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and was placed by Judge Baldwin in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) to serve five years, fined $1,500, pay $100 to Substance Abuse Education fund, $200 to Catastrophe fund, make restitution of $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center, pay a $50 monthly supervision fee, attend alcohol highway safe driving school, perform 40 hours of community service, driver's license is suspended 18 months and when restored must install an ignition interlock on steering wheel of car for 12 months.On a second charge of driving while license was suspended was fined $500. He was cited by Minersville Patrolman Richarge C. Clink.
