A new group, the Carbon County Shrine Club, has formed to serve the needs of sick children in Carbon County.

Serving as interim president of the new organization will be Michael A. Mickey.The organization had its first formal presense on Tuesday night at the Mahoning Valley Country Club.Among those attending the meeting was Edwin Engle, Illustrius Potentate of Rajah Shrine.Engle said that the Shrine Club is set up to help children with neuromuscular disorders and severe burns.Shriners International supports Shriners Hospitals for Children, a health system of 22 facilities dedicated to providing pediatric medical care, world-class research and educational opportunities for medical professionals."All their care is provided for free," said Engle. "This totally disregards their ability to pay and they can be treated at any one of our 22 hospitals. They are completely covered for hospital coverage once they are in the system until they are 18 years old."Engle also noted that their transportation to and from hospital facilities is also free.Shriners International is a fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth with nearly 200 temples (chapters) in seven countries and thousands of clubs around the world.
