Vehicle stop leads to seizure of large quantity of bath salts

A vehicle stop in Schuylkill County recently led to the seizure of a large quantity of bath salts.

On Sept. 6 detectives from the office of District Attorney Karen Byrnes Noon, and Sheriff Joseph Groody and deputies from his office, along with adult probation office personnel, conducted a saturation patrol with the assistance of police from Ashland, Butler Township and Frackville.The patrol included the boroughs of Ashland, Frackville, Mahanoy Plane, Girardville and Gilberton.During the patrol a vehicle stop for a motor vehicle code violation was made. The driver was identified as Mark Stump, 27, of Mount Carmel. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Kevin Clews, 33, of Ashland.A further investigation found bath salts in the vehicle weighing about 375 grams which has an estimated street value of $15,000.Clews was taken into custody and placed in the county prison on a probation violation. Charges to be filed against him incident to the vehicle stop include possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.Stump was cited for the motor vehicle violation and released.
