CENTER VALLEY - Travis Edmond had a breakout season last year as a sophomore for Southern Lehigh. If Friday night's performance against Northern Lehigh is any indication, the Spartans quarterback is going to surpass the marks he has already set.

Edmonds completed 12 of 15 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns as the Spartans rolled to a 49-0 shutout of the Bulldogs in a game that ended under the Mercy Rule.Southern Lehigh built up a 28-0 halftime advantage and coasted from there."The score is not indicative of our team," said Northern Lehigh coach Joe Tout. "They have a nice team. We just weren't consistent all night."I thought in the first half we did some nice things offensively. Defensively, I thought we held our own, but the word of the night was inconsistency on our part."The Spartans got things rolling in Northern Lehigh territory at the 44 after a punt. Four plays later, Edmond found Cody Heffelfinger open for a 13-yard TD and with 5:57 left in the first quarter, Collin Johnston booted the PAT for a 7-0 lead.The Bulldogs had a drive going following the TD with Nate Farber and Theo Young picking up a couple of first downs moving to the Spartans' 31. Christian Ricci intercepted a pass at his own 42 and that happened to swing the momentum in Southern Lehigh's direction.On the first play, Ricci broke loose and raced down the left sideline for a 58-yard touchdown making it 13-0 with 1:25 still left in the opening quarter.Northern Lehigh moved the ball again into Southern Lehigh territory with a Chance DeLong to Stephen Ingles 36-yard pass completion, but ran out of downs at the Spartans' 25.Edmond used his accuracy to find Trent Silfies open for a 75-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter. He found Jacob DelPriore open for the two-point conversion to stretch the lead to 21-0.A 33-yard completion to DelPriore set up a four-yard TD pass to Heffelfinger and the PAT by Johnson with 5:56 left in the half made it 28-0.Another Bulldog drive into Southern Lehigh territory stalled at the 36 and the Spartans went to work on a scoring drive that put the game into the Mercy Rule. Ricci scored on a five-yard run with 6:03 left in the third quarter and Johnston's PAT made it 35-0.Spencer Cobb scored on a one-yard run and Austen Hughes broke loose on a 27-yard run, both in the fourth quarter., setting the final score at 49-0."Offensively we hurt ourselves early," Tout said. "I expected both teams to score points. Early on we had a little momentum, then they got the interception and to me that was the tale for us not being in it at halftime."In the second half we had as decent drive going, but we didn't have 11 people on the same page tonight. It looked like on maybe one play, we had seven guys who were on their blocks and we had another guy have a missed assignment."In reality, we played a good football team and we just weren't consistent enough to stay in the game."The Bulldogs have a week to shake it off and get ready for their home opener on Friday against Notre Dame of Green Pond.
