It was an impressive sight along both sides of North and South streets in Lehighton as thousands of spectators and bikers participated in the 15th Annual Lehighton Bike Night organized by the Lehighton Downtown Initiative Committee.

In addition to a grand display of classic to new motorcycles, visitors and bikers from all over the state enjoyed entertainment, family activities and many vendors."This year's Bike Night was a great success and true picture of team work," said LDIC volunteer and Lehighton Borough Manager Nicole Beckett. "The annual event not only brings visitors to our downtown, it benefits the Lehighton Police and Fire Departments along with the Downtown Initiative Committee."Organizers added that almost perfect weather added to the great attendance.The vast collection of bikes ranged from antique motorcycles, muscle bikes, low riders, bikes with side cars and even a pedable motorbike."This was a great turnout," said Nelson Steigerwalt Sr., Lehighton, who displayed a 1948 Model J Whizzer Motorbike. He said his son, Nelson Steigerwalt Jr., restored it.Beckett mentioned the event, which consisted of activiites at both parks, incorporated a wide array of family activities, geared toward people of all ages. Some popular events were a Poker Run, tattoo contest, ring toss, slow race, kielbasa queen and face painting. She added that the Eclectic Circus was also on hand the entire day teaching people how to dancing with hoops and showing off their fire-eating skills.Some key organizers mentioned during the event were Beckett, Lehighton Bike Night Committee member Ty Poole of Boat Yard Bar and Grill, LDIC President Frank Potoczak of Red Castle Brewery and Castle Grill, LDIC member Mary Lou Kaschlak-Harvan, LDIC member Dale Traupman and many others.Ed Finney of Lehighton, who founded Lehighton Bike Night 15 years ago and also served as president for many years, attended the event."On behalf of the borough, we would like to sincerely thank Potoczak, Harvan and Poole and all the volunteers for their dedication to the event," added Beckett. "It is an honor to be part of this exciting day."Organizers added that they anticipate the event to get bigger and better every year.
