Who qualifies for help under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program?

Income requirements range from a maximum gross monthly income of $1,490 for a single person ($1,862 if that person is elderly or disabled) to a maximum of $6,242 for a family of 10 ($7,802 if it includes an elderly or disabled member).To receive SNAP benefits, most households are restricted to assets of $5,500 if they do not include an elderly (over age 60) or disabled family member, and to $9,000 if the do include an elderly or disabled member. Assets include, but are not limited to, bank accounts, cash on hand, cars and motorcycles.Those who meet the eligibility requirements can apply online by accessing the state's COMPASS link, or by visiting your local county assistance office. Those who qualify are issued electronic benefit transfer cards, called ACCESS cards.The benefits range from a maximum of $200 a month for a single person to $1,502 for a family of 10. an additional $150 a month is provided for each additional family member. The minimum benefits range from $2 to $16 a month.
