National Night Out will be held in J.T., Tuesday

Jim Thorpe will host National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 6-10 p.m. NNO will be held at Memorial Park in Jim Thorpe. A rain date is set for Wednesday, Aug. 7. Everyone is invited to attend.

NNO is nonprofit, non-political event that is designed to build a partnership between emergency services and the community. NNO also helps to bring awareness to drug and crime prevention as well as promotes community service and involvement.NNO events take place in communities all over the country. This is the second year that Jim Thorpe is hosting this event. Last year's NNO event in Jim Thorpe had over 1,000 attendees and 40 vendors.At NNO there will be guest speakers, entertainment, food, photo booth, arts/crafts, and games. There will be a MedEvac landing in the Jim Thorpe field at approximately 7:30 p.m. There will also be numerous emergency service vehicles.There will be booths set up representing the various organizations attending. Some of the organizations that will be attending NNO are:Jim Thorpe Police Department, Little Apple Area of Narcotics Anonymous, Pennsylvania State Police, Office of Attorney General, Jim Thorpe Fire Department, Lehigh Valley Hospital Network.MedEvac, Penn Forest Fire Company No. 1, Nesquehoning Fire Company No. 1, Carbon County Emergency Management, Representative Doyle Heffley, Senator John Yudichak, Carbon County Special Olympics.Carbon County Friends of Animals, PA Treatment and Healing, HALOS (Hope After Loved Ones Suicide), Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, Carbon County Sheriff's Office, Carbon County Correctional Facility Research, Sherry Hoffman, Reading Specialist, Dr. Lisa Bleicher, Family Chiropractic.Carbon County Veterans Affairs, Jim Thorpe Girls Soccer Team, Lesisko's Bargain Boutique, Distracted Driving, In Memory of Paul Miller, The Baltimore Life, Hickory Run & Lehigh Gorge State Parks, FYI Club, St. Joseph's Senior Group, Project Purple "The Herren Project," North Central Highway Safety Network.Carbon County Environmental Education Center, Lady Olympian Basketball Boosters, Blue Mountain Health System, Jim Thorpe Community Watch, Nature's Trail, Rotary Club of Jim Thorpe, Lions Club of Jim Thorpe, St. Marks & St. John's Episcopal Church, St. Joseph's Regional Academy, St. Joseph's CYO, Jim Thorpe Band Front, and Alzheimer Awareness.Cindy Henning, National Night Out coordinator, stated, "This year a special invitation has been sent to approximately 35 borough mayors to participate by attending this year's event."She added, "Drug use and crime that results from drug use is not just a local problem but a regional one. We need to make our communities better for our residents and children and we can only do it by working together."Henning stated, "The upcoming event means several things to our committee, it's a positive community event where families and neighbors can get together and have a great outdoor night, its also something that we can provide where the public can learn about crime and drug awareness and have fun doing it."If there is rain the day of the event, the committee recommends checking the Facebook page "Jim Thorpe National Night Out" to see if NNO will be delayed to the rain date on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
