Lower Towamensing Township will support its fire company's fuel needs.

The township's board of supervisors unanimously agreed on Tuesday to allow the Aquashicola Fire Company use of the township's fuel pumps.After the meeting, supervisors Chairman Brent Green said that based on his calculations, doing so would cost the township about $3,000 for the remainder of the year.In May, Rory Koons, president of the fire company, wrote a letter to the township asking for their consideration to provide fuel, both gasoline and diesel fuel, for its apparatus.Koons said in his letter that the fire company had been advised that its suppliers of donated fuel for apparatus were considering eliminating their contribution, and planned to begin charging the fire company for the fuel.In his letter, Koons said that annually, the fire department uses about 750 gallons of diesel fuel, and 200 gallons of gasoline.Also on Tuesday, supervisors agreed to participate in a council of governments in conjunction with Carbon County.Green said the goals for the group would be to work together to share costs and resources.In other business, supervisors:• Agreed to host a conference to discuss recycling issues at the township municipal building on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.• Granted AT&T an extension until Sept. 30.• Agreed to purchase new computers.• Approved the Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System (PMRS) resolution.• Approved the agility program with the state Department of Transportation (PennDOT).• Agreed to check into the possible formation of a township newsletter.• Approved a request to have the fire company attend the Franklin Township dedication.• Agreed to take out a half-page advertisement for the annual convention.
