Lansford ambulance out of service

Tamaqua Ambulance Association will be covering Coaldale while Lansford Ambulance, which usually provides the coverage, is out of service.

The news surfaced in the midst of a public meeting Tuesday of Coaldale council. No one at the meeting seemed to know why the company is not providing service.Councilman Thomas Keerans, who is head of the police committee, said he was informed of the situation about mid-point through the meeting.A representative of Tamaqua Ambulance said his group would be covering the borough. However, he also had no information as to why the Lansford corps was down.No information as to why Lansford Ambulance was taken out of service was available as of early Wednesday.The state Department of Health's Bureau of Emergency Medical Services was working on getting the information as of press time.The Eastern Pennsylvania EMS Council, Orefield, oversees ambulances services in Carbon County. Executive director/CEO Everitt F. Binns did not immediately return an emailed message seeking information.The matter surfaced at the public meeting after council agreed to pay $1,945.30 for its share of Lansford Ambulance Association's workers' compensation insurance for 2010-2012. The amount is divvied between the two boroughs, based on the numbers of calls.
