Grand opening set for P-K Library Center

The grand opening of the Penn-Kidder Library Center will be held June 28-29 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in conjunction with a Health and Wellness Fair conducted by Carrigan's Country Pharmacy, Mauch Chunk Trust, Hazle Park and Discovery Years Daycare at Pine Point Plaza, at the intersection of Routes 534 and 903, Albrightsville.

On Friday, Lake Harmony Ambulance and Lake Harmony Fire Company will be present, as well as the Carrigan Healthy Bear with health and safety tips.The library will have a used book sale, bake sale, flea market and craft vendors, and books signings and talks by local authors.Gene Duffy, author of As the Matzo Ball Turns, will be there from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday. Duffy graduated from Penn State with a degree in mechanical engineering. While at PSU he played football. He spent a half season in the Arena Football League and was brought into training camp by the San Francisco 49ers.He spent 10 years in Hollywood, acting, writing and producing in stage and film, including a self-produced play that he starred in called Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, and a movie he wrote, starred in, co-directed and co-produced entitled Living With Uncle Ray.As the Matzo Ball Turns is his first novel and is a finalist for Book of the Year in the humor category by Foreword Reviews. He writes under the pen name of Jozef Rothstein. He also produced, wrote and hosted a show on TV-13 called the "Freedom Report."Sherry Hoffman, author of A to Z Character Education for the Classroom, will be on hand from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday. She is a teacher, author, wife and mother. She and her husband, Jared, own All-Points Towing, Recovery, and Service Center in Jim Thorpe.Hoffman is a reading specialist at Lehighton Area Middle School. She encourages positive decision-making and shares her passion for reading, writing, and character development with her students and her children Megan, Jocelyn, and Sawyer.She hopes the poems, lessons, and activities in her book will make a positive impact in the world. He earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Hofstra University in New York, where he was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.In late 2010, he published his first book, Master The Card: Say Goodbye to Credit Card Debt ... Forever!, which he considers a "labor of love." He has a passion for helping people overcome credit card debt.
