The Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group (GLVWG) will host a meeting at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 22, at the Palmer Branch of the Easton Area Public Library, 1 Weller Place, Palmer Township.

Morning program (11 a.m.): Focus the Moment in Your Writing published poet Marilyn Hazelton will describe a technique called "link and shift," a central concept in Japanese poetic forms. She will present an overview of these forms and will touch on how the Japanese forms develop the ability to discover vivid detail that can illuminate all genres of prose, as well as poetry.Afternoon workshop (1:30 p.m.): Focus the Moment, Enlarge the Moment participants will experiment with writing tanka and haiku. The writing preparation will include developing vocabulary and useful questions. Time permitting, there will also be discussion about how participants' tanka and haiku experiences can help them deepen detail in their work.Hazelton is a teaching artist with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and is also Poet-in-Residence at The Swain School in Allentown. Her writing has been published in a number of journals and venues and she edits red lights, an international tanka journal.The morning program is free and open to the public and the afternoon workshop is free for members.
