Tamaqua teen to attend Keystone Girls State

Brianna M. Bittner, a junior at Tamaqua Area High School, has been selected and sponsored by the Tamaqua American Legion C.H. Berry Post 173 Auxiliary to attend the Keystone Girls State.

This will be the 68th session sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.The program, entitled "Experience in Government," will be held at Shippensburg University in Shippensburg from June 23-29.Approximately 200 girls are being brought together through sponsorship by a number of local auxiliary units and other organizations to study government on city, council and state levels.During the week, the girls will elect city, council and state officials, including governor, lieutenant governor, other officers and an "Outstanding Citizen." Two senators will also attend Girls Nations in Washington, D.C.Brianna is the daughter of Barry and Michele Bittner of Tamaqua. Bittner has served as vice president of the class of 2014 and has been appointed president for Tamaqua Area Student Government for the upcoming year.She is also a member of the Tamaqua Area Leadership Council, French Honor Society, Chemistry Club and World Language Club. Brianna was the recipient of the American Legion Youth Hero Award for her lifesaving efforts and heroism.
